ReptiBlock 4.5kg by the brand ReptiGlobe is a coconut bedding with much less dust than most other brands! Suitable for reptiles, amphibians, insects and other pets. A 100% organic substrate that is completely safe for use in a terrarium, paludarium or tub tank & tray system. Can also be used for bioactive terrariums with or without plants!
All coconut bedding is made from the pod of the coconut. When the pod is still a green fruit, the fruit is manually removed around the nut. The remaining husk is a leftover after harvesting the coconut fruit.
The leftover (pod) husks are the basis of our ReptiBlock coconut chips! After the pod is separated from the nut, it is manually cut one by one, with the position of the blades (between 6 - 12 mm) determining the size of the coconut chips. The cut green pod now forms the base of our ReptiBlock coconut chips where solar radiation helps to dry the chips.
In a time lapse of 4 to 6 weeks, the pod turns from green to orange/beige. At this stage, the coconut husk is still young and soft in texture and forms the excellent base for our ReptiBlock, coconut bedding. Because the coconut bedding is packaged at a younger stage than similar brands, the bedding can still release 100% natural dyes tannins to the drinking water, should this get into the water bowl ( of course not harmful when drinking).
When the coconut chips are sufficiently dried, the chips are washed 3 times with clean / clear fresh water. Washing reduces the dust present to the minimum and lowers the salt content in the ReptiBlock . After being washed, the product is dried again to then 2x sieved with a drum sieve and a shaker sieve.
The sieved coconut chips is now ready to be manually measured and compressed into a ReptiBlock 4.5kg.
