Zoo Med FS-LUV Zoo Med ReptiSun® UVB/LED

In 1993 Zoo Med developed the first UVB lamp for reptiles; this changed the way all zoos, herpetologists and hobbyists keep reptiles in captivity. We are still developing our product line as more efficient and environmentally conscious lighting becomes available, and our ReptiSun® UVB/LED is our most daring and advanced UVB lighting option to date. UVB

UVB wavelengths, together with the right temperature (usually extra heat), are responsible for the production of vitamin D3 in reptiles. However, only a few UVB wavelengths (from 290-315 nm) help in the production of vitamin D3. The Reptisun® UVB/LED lamp emits UVB wavelengths from 295 nm to 320 nm.

UVA

UVA is a part of reptiles' eyesight, so without it they are color blind! Some of the UVA wavelengths (from 320nm-335nm) also help regulate vitamin D3 production and let reptiles know when they have produced enough. The Reptisun® UVB/LED lamp emits UVA wavelengths of 320nm-335nm and 355nm-395nm.

VISIBLE LIGHT

Visible light is as important for reptiles as it is for humans. The amount of visible light emitted by a lamp is measured at a temperature scale corresponding to the heat of the light in relation to the color. A lamp that emits light between 5,000 and 7,000 Kelvin is most similar to the sun. The Reptisun® UVB/LED has a color temperature of 6,500 Kelvin.

INFRARED

The infrared spectrum provides heat to reptiles. This is essential for the production of vitamin D3 and for maintaining body temperature (reptiles are ectothermic). With the combination of the Reptisun® UVB/LED with a Basking Spot Lamp you get a more natural visible light with infrared for efficient depth heating.
