  • Optimal operation with SolarRaptor electronic ballasts and ClampLamps

In addition to heat, light is essential for reptiles. It regulates their day/night rhythm, affects the active and resting phases, and influences feeding behavior and digestion. Many species also associate light with warmth and therefore seek out bright spots in the terrarium to "sunbathe." Depending on their area of origin, they also need more or less UV light to stay healthy.

Unlike humans, UV light is visible to reptiles. Without this light, they cannot perceive the normal color spectrum and everything appears dull and colorless to them. UV light consists of UVA and UVB radiation. UVA radiation is elemental to well-being, increases appetite, activity and reproductive behavior of reptiles. UVB radiation is even more important because it is the only way for animals to produce vitamin D3, which is essential for calcium metabolism - vitamin D3 synthesis.

SolarRaptor UV HID lamps are an optimal all-in-one solution for diurnal terrarium animals that require sunlight with UV radiation and heat. The modern UV high-pressure metal halide lamps reach the natural range of the sun with about 70000 lux. A much higher value than fluorescent tubes, mixed lamps and halogen spotlights. Sun-loving reptiles are almost attracted to the light and enjoy the sunny warmth.

Available in wattages of 35, 50, 70 and 150, SolarRaptor UV HID lamps offer the right spotlight for any terrarium size. The "SpotBeam" and "FloodBeam" versions differ in size/diameter (design). With wattages of 35 and 70, the "SpotBeam" version is a smaller spotlight with a smaller diameter than the "FloodBeam" version. The beam angle is correspondingly smaller.
The lamp's aluminum housing dissipates excess heat and protects against overheating. An integrated reflector increases the light output many times over. Thanks to the tempered glass used, no dust can burn inside the lamp, which would block the radiation.

UV lamps must be replaced regularly, as UV radiation decreases over time.
The UV HID lamps reliably provide reptiles with UV for about 1 year - after that the lamps should be replaced.
Installation

The bulbs should be used in a thermostable E27 socket. Glass blocks UV radiation almost completely, therefore the lamps should always be placed inside the terrarium. A ballast with the correct wattage is required.
Install out of reach of animals!

Ideal are the SolarRaptor ClampLamps - they come with a protective grid and compatible connectors for the SolarRaptor ECG (ballast) and can be connected without tools.
Note

Ideally, the UV value of a lamp should be measured regularly with the Solarmeter® 6.2R Reptile UVB or Solarmeter® 6.5R Reptile UV Index to determine the appropriate time for replacement.
